DEMAT ACCOUNT FAQs

If you've already opened a new demat account, submit at an Axis Bank branch (with IPV/OSV stamps): a signed Common Modification Form, a Demat Debit and Pledge Instruction (DDPI), self-attested PAN copy, SMS alert registration form (if needed), and a self-attested demat proof/CML. If you haven't opened a demat account yet, submit the demat account opening form, PAN copy, and DDPI. Documents can also be mailed to Axis Securities Ltd, Thane Belapur Road, Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai-400710. Linking/reactivation typically takes about 2 working days once documents are received without rejections.

Per SEBI's April 2022 circular, DDPI replaced the earlier POA that authorized brokers to sell securities on a client's behalf. It's needed for seamless online trading/settlement. It can be set up online (guide linked) or offline via a form (Resident or NRI version) submitted at an Axis Bank branch.

You receive a statement of account confirming the update.

Transferring securities between demat accounts held with two different depositories. It's possible only for ISINs active in both depositories.

A DIS is an offline instruction used to transfer securities from your demat account to another demat account; each slip allows up to 5 securities. You can request a DIS booklet online (via the Axis Direct portal for NSDL, or Axis Bank internet/mobile banking) or offline via a requisition form mailed to Axis Securities Ltd, Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai. A fee of Rs. 100 + 18% GST applies per DIS (Rs. 200 + 18% GST for BSDA accounts). You'll need to verify the request via a call and OTP.

It's preferred but not mandatory. Providing bank details at account opening is mandatory though, since they're used to credit dividends, interest, maturity or redemption amounts directly to your bank account.

Committing shares you hold (as pledgor) in favor of another party (pledgee) as collateral, typically to take a loan against shares.

In the depository system there's little difference, except a pledge can be invoked by the lender (pledgee) alone, while hypothecation requires the borrower's (hypothecator's) consent to invoke.

Yes - it's easier than pledging physical securities. Guides for pledging via Swift Trade and the RING app are linked on the FAQ page.

The pledgor remains the beneficial owner during the pledge period and receives corporate benefits declared in that time. The pledgee only benefits if the pledge is invoked and the shares are in the pledgee's account on the record date.

A regular demat account with no or low Annual Maintenance Charges per SEBI's June 2024 circular. Eligibility: you hold (or propose to hold) only one demat account as sole/first holder, only one BSDA across depositories, and holdings value doesn't exceed Rs. 10 lakh at any time. Charges: no AMC if holdings are up to Rs. 4 lakh; AMC up to Rs. 100 for holdings between Rs. 4 lakh and Rs. 10 lakh.

A form (separate versions for individual and non-individual holders) required at account opening, filled alongside the demat application form.

Once your demat account is open, you can buy/sell shares electronically through any broker by providing your DP account details so bought shares are credited (or sold shares debited) accordingly.

Securities are transmitted to legal heirs as determined by a competent court, requiring a transmission form, attested death certificate, and (depending on value) a succession certificate, court order, probate of will, letter of administration, or - for holdings below Rs. 5 lakh - a letter of indemnity, affidavit, and NOC/family settlement deed, plus the claimant's CML if held with a different DP.

Transferring securities to surviving holders/legal heirs on the death of a holder. If shares were held physically, surviving holders open (or use an existing) demat account, and physical certificates plus a Demat Request Form and Transmission form are submitted for dematerialization and credit. Required documents vary by claimant type (nominee, joint holder, or legal heir) and claim value.

Nomination must be updated to avoid account deactivation. For single-holder accounts, log in, go to My Account > Add Nomination, choose to opt out or add a nominee, fill in details online, review and accept the disclaimer, then submit. You can track status (Submitted/Rejected/Downloaded) under the same tab. Multi-holder accounts must submit a Multiple Nomination Form at a branch instead.

Converting dematerialized holdings back into physical certificate form. You submit a request, which is verified against your balances, forwarded to NSDL, and then to the company's registrar, who prints and dispatches the certificates.

Rearranging the order of joint holders' names to match an existing demat account (e.g., holding certificates in "A & B" order but the demat account is in "B & A" order) without needing to open a new account - done via a transposition form alongside the demat request form.

Yes, by the DP or the company/RTA - common reasons include signature mismatch, incorrect holder name, certificate/DRF detail mismatch, missing call-paid receipt, wrong format, or surrendering old/defunct certificates. Rejected DRFs are returned to the submitting branch or the registered address, and rejections are communicated via periodic demat statements.

They are cancelled by the company's RTA.

Since April 2019 (per SEBI LODR rules), listed companies can't process transfer requests for physical securities - only transmission/transposition. To transfer, you must first dematerialize by submitting a Dematerialization Request Form (NSDL or CDSL), original certificates, and self-attested PAN/Aadhaar at an Axis Bank branch or by mail. The process typically takes 20-30 days.

Apply online, or contact customer service at 022-68515400 / email support.

Converting physical security certificates into electronic form credited to your demat account - it changes the form of holding, not ownership. Requires opening a demat account and submitting a Dematerialization Request Form with original certificates and self-attested PAN/Aadhaar; processing takes about 20-30 days.

Avoids issues like bad delivery, fake certificates, litigation-affected shares, or signature mismatches; no physical transfer forms or stamps needed; and removes risk of losing or fraudulently intercepting certificates.

INVESTING FAQs

You don't need to research and pick stocks or schemes yourself - AxisDirect's experts curate them - and you can invest in a whole basket of stocks or schemes in just a couple of clicks instead of placing individual orders.

For equities, it's the "smallcase" feature - a weighted basket of up to 20 stocks built around a theme, financial model, or risk profile (e.g., aggressive, balanced, conservative). You pick a smallcase aligned with your view, invest in a few clicks, and track multiple portfolios together (smallcases don't constitute investment advice). For mutual funds, "MF Advisor" helps build an MF portfolio based on your goals, risk appetite, and time horizon.

PORTFOLIO FAQs

The portfolio updates on T+1 for most transactions, but certain events aren't auto-reflected: ESOP allotments, IPOs applied through external sources, corporate actions like delisting or rights issues, and (for NRIs) PIS/Non-PIS transfers. In these cases you need to add a manual entry (Portfolio > Add Stock). Manual entries aren't supported for debentures, NCDs, bonds, SGBs, corporate bonds, or corporate FDs. Manual entries can later be edited or deleted via the stock's "All Transactions" view.

Same causes as above (ESOPs, external IPOs, corporate actions, PIS/Non-PIS transfers) when a manual entry hasn't been made yet - add a manual BUY entry to correct it.

Automatic processing of complex corporate actions in the newer portfolio module may now account for something a manual entry was previously added to fix. Edit or delete the old manual transaction via View Details > All Transactions.

Similarly, automatic handling of mergers/demergers may make old manual correction entries appear as duplicates - delete the manual transaction via View Details > All Transactions.

Corporate actions like mergers/demergers can add new stocks on top of your traded holdings. Check View Details > All Transactions for entries marked "MERGERIN" or "DEMERGERIN" to confirm.

No - values for stocks, holdings, and open positions (F&O, E-Margin, etc.) are delayed by roughly 5-15 minutes.

Go to My Portfolio > Reports > Dividend Summary (or the direct Dividend Summary URL after login). It lists all dividend transactions for the current financial year, sorted by stock and date (customizable), with the option to switch financial years.

Yes. Manual entries are meant for shares/MF units from ESOPs, external IPOs, etc. NRI PIS/Non-PIS transfers should instead be reported via Contact Us. IPO allotments via AxisDirect auto-reflect on allotment (sellable once listed). Fixed-income holdings (NCDs/Bonds/FDs) aren't reflected in the portfolio. Cost basis for shares bought before Feb 1, 2018 follows the grandfathering rule under the Finance Act 2018 (Section 112A) - using the higher of actual cost or the lower of Jan 31, 2018 fair market value and actual sale price. Since August 1, 2023, off-market transfers (excluding ESOPs) are auto-updated using the closing price on the transaction day, appearing in the portfolio on T+2. To add manually: log in > Portfolio > Add Stock, fill in transaction type, exchange, stock, date, quantity, price, and charges; it appears within one working day. Entries can later be edited or deleted from View Details > All Transactions.

This is the Annual Maintenance Charge (AMC) for your demat account - Rs. 750 + 18% GST (or Rs. 562.50 + 18% GST) per year. Customers who link an Axis Bank savings account get the first year free; the AMC then starts from the first anniversary. Non-Axis Bank savings account customers are charged Rs. 350 for year one, then the standard annual AMC thereafter.

Margin rules mean sell-side margin isn't charged upfront (using Early Pay-in of shares), so buying back the same scrip same-day with fresh funds creates a short-margin/intraday situation. You can use up to 80% of sale proceeds to buy back the same stock same day in Cash, provided you haven't placed any order that day in Intraday, Cover, E-Margin, F&O or Currency segments. The same 80% limit applies to rolling over E-Margin positions.
